What is Detoxification and how does it work?
Essentially detoxification means cleaning your blood. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are supposed to be processed for elimination. The body also has the ability to eliminate toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the adversely affected, leaving you with a weak immune system and inability to process nutrients and minerals that are needed to survive and live a healthy life.
Who Needs to Detoxify?
Everyone in North America or on a western diet should detox at least once a year and otherwise quarterly. Scientific studies show that to detoxify is beneficial for health.

Either way, make sure you follow a program that includes replenishment, as many only supply supplements or suggestions for cleansing. What you need is a combination of both. The best part about a proper DETOX program is that you lose weight, only if you need to lose it. With regular cleanse programs, you lose weight, however going back to your regular routine and no program, you gain your weight back and in many cases gain more.
I have done at least a dozen detox / cleanse programs and most of them do not meet the standards of what I have discovered about the manufacturing process of herbs and supplements. Think of it as getting your vitamin C; you know the best way is by eating a whole piece of fruit that is high in these vitamins that also contains all of the co factors. Simply put, when your body is fed with foods that are complete, you notice you are satisfied and for a longer period of time. When you start a program you may have issues with the first couple of days, simply from habit of putting hand to mouth or chewing, however when you are on a cleanse program, if it contains everything you require including, healthy fats, healthy proteins, healthy sugars, healthy salts, amino acids, etc - you lose your cravings for unhealthy foods and the best part is, your conversion program after the cleanse will be that much easier. Why choose the rotten apple off the cart when you can choose the best one in the bin? Some of us just need guidance until we discover our own journey that is right for us. After all, you truly are what you eat.
